I KETUT SUTAMA
The artist, I Ketut Sutama was born in the year 1960, in Kutuh Kaja Village just north of Ubud on the island of Bali. The story of his life is of great depth and interest. He started to paint in 1975 using the Balinese traditional style. He was taught the traditional style by I Gusti Made Kuanji. The subjects of his paintings are most often drawn from the daily life of Bali, like the temple ceremony, the rice harvest, traditional Balinese dance, and many others of the sort. The materials he uses are water color or acrylic color, painted on the cloth canvas. Aside from his proclivity toward artistic creation, I Ketut Sutama also has a community oriented heart and since 1998 has served as head organizer of Adat, or cultural traditions and happenings, in his village of Kutuh Kaja. He has taken on the responsibility of “Head Master”, in Balinese language called the ‘Bendesa Adat’, yet still finds time to drawn inspiration from his surroundings and creates thoughtful works of art reflecting the Balinese world. His work has often been exhibited by the”Purnama Club” and in other noted locations such as:
